2022-05-29 04:09:19 By : Ms. Grace M

Jean Lorenzen went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Jean was born in Valparaiso, Indiana on January 25, 1932. Her father, Ernest Piper, drove her mother, Martha, to the hospital in a horse-drawn sleigh because the roads were covered in snow. After graduation from Peotone High School in Peotone, Illinois, Jean went to work as a buyer in the drapery department of Kline's Department Store in Chicago Heights. She was an expert seamstress. She married the boy next door, Norman Lorenzen, on Sunday, September 20, 1953. They lived on the Lorenzen family farm and had three children: Suzan, William, and Dale.

In 1965, they moved to Chandler, Arizona. Jean was very active in their church, a member of the Chandler Garden Club, and on various boards. She loved to garden, arrange flowers, read, and travel. Jean and Norman owned the Chandler Sewing Machine Shop and had many rental properties. They owned the historic property at 690 North Alma School Road in Chandler. After her children were grown, Jean became a substitute rural mail carrier.

Jean's life was devoted to her faith and to service. She and her husband were founding members of Trinity Christian Fellowship in Chandler, helping to build the original sanctuary. After Norman retired from International Harvester, they joined Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP) and traveled the USA working on building projects at churches, church camps, Christian schools, orphanages, and other charitable organizations. Jean often sewed curtains and reupholstered furniture for the facilities. At a program to help people get back in the workforce, she tailored clothing for the residents for their job interviews. They worked in all 48 contiguous states and even worked two projects in Alaska, driving their RV up the ALCAN Highway.

After Norman's death in 2003, Jean continued their good work. One of their favorite charities was Rainbow Acres, a home for developmentally disabled adults where Jean donated her van as one of her last acts of charity.

Jean is survived by her two children: Dale (Deb) of Tempe, AZ and Suzan Westmoreland (Darrel) of Carlsbad, CA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dora Lorenzen (Mike Lin) and their daughter, Peityn; Brad Lorenzen (Brandy) and son, Cole; and Caitlin Westmoreland.

The family suggests donations to your favorite charity or to Trinity Christian Fellowship, Fellowship Square Historic Mesa, Rainbow Acres, or the Alzheimer's Association.

A visitation will be held at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd. Chandler AZ 85248 on Sunday, May 22st, 2022 at 3pm. Her funeral service will be held at Trinity Christian Fellowship Church, 50 S McQueen Road Chandler AZ 85225 on Monday, May 23rd, 2022 at 10am with a reception and committal to follow.
