A consignment event in Milford is underway to help families find quality, inexpensive clothing.

As inflation pushes up prices, consignment is becoming a popular option, especially for parents of young children who quickly outgrow their clothes.

The consignment event organized by a local Just Between Friends franchise is being held through Sunday at the Hampshire Dome in Milford. Organizers said that when the event started six years ago, it was held in a Nashua gym, but it now covers several soccer fields, with 350 families offering items.

"We all work hard for our money," said Gienah Forbes, of Just Between Friends. "We want it to stretch. We want to provide the best we can for our children, and for us, it's families helping families."

Forbes says that people who are just starting their family can find the items they need, as can people with older children.

"We go all the way up to juniors," she said. "And we have clothing, books, shoes, toys."

Parents said they're finding high-quality items for their children.

"I found this pristine North Face jacket for $10 for my 6-year-old," said Noelle Lemasurier, of Merrimack. "I can't wait to give it to her. It's going to last her for years."

Lemasurier said she started shopping at the event when she was pregnant with her second daughter.

"I came back year after year to not only shop, but then I started to consign because I had things from my previous daughter and my second daughter," she said.

Her advice for first-timers is to bring a wagon.

"Because the carts are limited," she said. "And bring your own reusable bags and be prepared to get a big bang for your buck."

The event runs through Sunday at noon. Tickets are required for some time periods.
