During a social media tirade against Adidas over the weekend, Kanye West hinted he might be open to purchasing or collaborating with San Antonio Shoemakers, a company that specializes in orthopedic footwear.

The rapper and designer posted on Instagram that he needs to buy his own major shoe company in order to be the chief decision maker. West then posted a screenshot of San Antonio Shoemaker’s logo and Wikipedia page to his Instagram account on Monday, fueling speculation that he may buy the local company.

In a series of posts to his Instagram, West said that he believes he’s lost control over Yeezy footwear and that top officials at Adidas are making decisions about the line without his input. He accused the German sportswear giant of stealing his designs with recent non-Yeezy footwear, such as the adiFOM Q and the Adilette 22 bearing a close resemblance to his products.

West went on to say that he wanted out of his Adidas contract and that he needed to buy a shoe company and acquire its factories.

Founded in 1979, San Antonio Shoemakers, better known as SAS shoes, has gained legions of devotees who swear by the comfort and craftsmanship of the shoes and aren’t bothered by their frumpy appearance. The company has factories on the Southwest Side of San Antonio and in Del Rio.

The orthopedic footwear company has recently shifted its focus to a younger, more fashion-conscious demographic. The closely held private company has launched a number of new, more stylish shoes that have shaken up its older styles.

Among them are men’s and women’s sandals with more pizazz in the detailing, a retro-style sneaker for men in new colors and a men’s dress shoe with a younger, fresher silhouette.

In an emailed statement, a company spokeswoman did not answer specific questions about West's post on Instagram. However, the company does at least appear interested in working with West.

"We sincerely appreciate the interest Ye (Kanye West) has expressed towards our company and look forward to continuing the conversation around a potential collaboration," the spokeswoman said.
