Fast food fans have gone fishin'.

As major retailers and social platforms continue to dominate the digital commerce landscape, seafood chain restaurant Lohn John Silver's has emerged as a surprising competitor in the battle for online shopping supremacy.

In a list of the "Top 10 Online Shopping Sites in 2022" posted on Twitter by Barstool Sports, LongJohnSilvers.com was ranked sixth, falling only behind Amazon.com, OnlyFans.com, eBay.com, Target.com and Best Buy.com.

HomeDepot.com, Walmart.com, Etsy.com and Kohls.com round out the top ten.

Initially tweeted by Barstool Sports, the list of ten comes by way of Curve, an over-the-top banking platform and digital wallet.

Barstool Sports and Curve are currently engaged in an ongoing promotion, according to Curve's official website.

Following the abrupt closing of 300 Long John Silver's locations during the half-decade leading up to 2019 and corporate staffing cuts in 2020, the last few years have marked a significant turnaround for the Lexington-based chain.

Earlier this year, QSR Magazine reported that through the first quarter of 2022, Long John Silver's had turned in six straight quarters of same-store sales growth.

QSR Magazine, dedicated to quick-service and fast-casual restaurant news and information, also reported that over the last two years, Long John Silver's grew total system sales by 2.5 percent, with net sales increasing by $16 million, year-over-year.

"We had a very good 2021," CEO Blain Shortreed told QSR.

Despite falling to 46th on Newsweek's list of the 50 most popular fast food restaurants in the United States in 2021, the restaurant's newfound status as one of the top online shopping websites of the year is sure to keep the ball rolling—and eyebrows raised.

In response to the Barstool Sports' tweet containing Curve's top-ten list, multiple commenters requested additional context for Long John Silver's appearing among numerous retail behemoths as one of the largest shopping platforms out right now.

"I need an explanation for the Long John Silvers inclusion," Twitter user @scubasteve028 wrote.

"Are people like laundering money through Long John Silvers website or something?" @JBisAlwaysRight questioned.

"One of these things is not like the other," @Panic_AtTheBBQ noted astutely.

Other Twitter users responding to the Barstool Sports' tweet, however, were more congratulatory than suspicious, with many treating Long John Silver's' high ranking as something to be celebrated.

"LJS with the absolute sleeper," @BrennenGlass tweeted. "Fire up some chicken planks and hush puppies."

"Long John Silvers with the upset," @wiggs1016 echoed.

"Long John Silvers [the] biggest Cinderella story of 2022," @BarstoolLaffy chimed in.

"We traded in our eye patch for glass slippers," the official @longjohnsilvers Twitter account quipped back, joining in on the fun.

"To be considered as a top-fish in Barstool's latest rankings was an outstanding achievement for our crew," Christopher Caudill, the senior vice president of marketing and innovation at Long John Silver's said in a statement to Newsweek. "Talk about a small fish in a big pond."

Newsweek reached out to Curve for comment.
