Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 11am on Friday morning (July 29)

A man in his 40s has died after a car overturned and slid down an embankment in South East London.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Eastern Way, Thamesmead (SE28) shortly before 11am this morning where they found a man injured.

He died at the scene less than an hour later despite the efforts of paramedics.

A spokesperson for the force told MyLondon : "Police were called at 10.56am on Friday, July 29 to reports of a car overturned at Eastern Way, SE28.

"Officers, London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service paramedics attended. At the scene a vehicle had overturned and come to a stop on its side down an embankment.

"At the scene a man, aged 40s, was found injured. Despite the efforts of medics, the man died at the scene at 11.46am. Enquiries are underway to notify next of kin.

"Road closures and cordons remain in place while emergency services deal with the scene. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision."

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash-cam footage should call police on 101 quoting reference number 2571 of July 29.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service told MyLondon: "We were called at 10.58am today (July 29) to reports of a road traffic collision on Eastern Way, Erith.

"We sent an ambulance crew, two paramedics in response cars, an incident response officer, and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART). We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

"The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under six minutes. Sadly, a man died at the scene.”

Officers, London’s Air Ambulance [HEMS] and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended. At the scene a vehicle had overturned and come to a stop on its side down an embankment.

At the scene a man, aged 40s, was found injured.

Despite the efforts of HEMS medic the man sadly died at the scene at 11:46hrs.

Enquiries are underway to notify next of kin.

Road closures and cordons remain in place while emergency services deal with the scene.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area as investigation works continue on the road where a man in his 40s has died after a horror crash on Eastern Way in Thamesmead earlier today.

Traffic monitoring website Inrix is reporting that the A2016 Eastern Way is closed in both directions, with severe delays due to the crash between Harrow Manor Way and Yarnton Way.

There is congestion in the direction towards Abbey Wood, while London bus routes 180, 301, 401 and B11 are all currently ondiversion.

The Metroppolitan Police has confirmed that the victim, a man aged in his 40s, died at the scene less than an hour after paramedics arrived.

Officers are currently working to inform the man's family.

The incident happened on Eastern Way, Thamesmead (SE28), with the road currently in blocked in both directions between Harrow Manor Way and Yarnton Way.
